NOOOOO....LOL...But you select what you want in it as in as long as they have the ingredients.
Yep like Keo said:)
Best sushi place on the Big Island. Don't be rude... They are always slammed because they are that good. Expect to wait and then enjoy ;) thank you for staying open all these years. Visiting home wouldn't be the same without Hiyashi's.
Really good price, even the avacado rolls for less than $3 are a good size! Yum!
They seem to not want customers; won't take a telephone order and 3 rolls took over an hour to prepare at 4pm. Made me sad. Used to frequent them for lunches when I lived and worked in Kailua-Kona. Could order + walk from my office.
Hyashis has the best rolls in town! I absolutely love the sushi there and I don't mind the waiting time. Super good and priced right!
Haven't been there for a while. Just as good as it was. The spicy ahi roll is the bomb,if you like melted cheese, seafood and avocado. I highly recommend the hurricane.
The best sushi on the Big Island!
Oh wow, such fresh sushi! Best sushi in town! My favorite by far was the ninja star. Had a little kick to it! We will be back! Also the rolls are well priced, $7-9 usually. We ordered 4 rolls for the 2 of us, and probably would’ve been fine with just 2 rolls. We had some extra left for dinner. :)
I found them quite rude sadly. Ok the sushi is probably great. But she was rather rude and unwelcoming to me and my friend. We were very put off. SorryNo stars would me my rating. The place is dirty and stank of fish
This is a local business that has been here for years. You don't live here if you don't know what this place is.Quick, and to the point : - You come here for quantity, and price. You want sushi that "doesn't fall apart" according to tourists left, and right. Go to Shionos, and shell out $20 for one order of sushi half the size.- Yes, it closes sporadically or takes over an hour for an order. Majority of the locals don't care, because it's worth it. Come back before they open (sign gives exact time of reopen), or just wait. - There's tons of free parking around this place. If you paid for parking, then you deserved it.TL;DR Good, and cheap sushi. Just be patient.
A very solid four. Best cheap sushi inspired rolls I’ve had. Long waits. Closes temporarily when they get big orders. The restaurant is behind a small indoor/outdoor strip mall that smells of urine and weed in the walkway. The street next to it leads to a gateway in the rock wall. A better way to enter for sure. I’d come again as sushi is typically too expensive to enjoy regularly. We got three rolls for $22 out the door. Jenna roll was the best.
The only place I miss about home is Hayashi's you make the roll. Hands down best sushi place in Hawaii!!! No where on Oahu compares to that little place in Kona. The freshest spicy ahi you could ever get, and the prices are insanely cheap. I honestly don't know how they can sell those high quality ingredients so cheap, I almost feel like we're stealing from them. I wish they would expand and open one in Honolulu
My favorite sushi place in the world. Taste is incredible for everything on the menu. Large portions. Worth the long lines and wait times, there is a reason, it’s immensely popular. Call ahead and get in before lunch time (even if you want it for dinner). The best rice, it makes it over the top my favorite sushi worldwide.
Unbelievable sushi!!! Worth every minute of the 2 hour take away sushi. It became our staple while on the island for a week!!! Guy Fieri where are you???? A real treasure!!!
Good price for tasty sushi. From my experience the spicy ahi tastes way better than Sakura. If you want sushi plated fancy then go there. Otherwise, Hayashi's is the best by far and the wait is worth it.
I have been eating here since around 2000. Quality has always been outstanding. Very 'ono.
A very affordable sushi spot where you can customize your own rolls. When they are very busy, they will close down for an hour or so to catch up on orders.
The food is good. However the place doesn’t take orders from phone calls and there is always 2 hours waiting for couple of rolls. They should just have more employees and make the experience of buying there more convenient for their customers.
Love Hayashi's, it's been a staple place for me for 16 years! However there's almost always a wait, anywhere between 30 minutes and to an hour+. Sometimes you will go by and there will be a sign that says there closed because of the amount of orders. I love their sushi, although keep in mind it's not your typical sushi, a bit more rice which makes for big portions, but it's delicious. I recommend the Mele' ("may-lay") roll with extra spicey sauce! So good!
Hayashis is really good, I like it a lot. I don't know. I love hayashis. I don't know what to do when I don't have Hayashis. I think when they close early it kinda breaks my heart. Once they closed early and my heart was broken. Yeah... it was sad. Thank you for everything you do for this community. Thank you for your heart. Thank you for the love you put into your sushi. Truly believe if everyone could try hayashi-sushi, the world would be a better place. Thank you for all you do. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Mad love. PS: I really really like your sushi. That's all. So good
Omg they are picky who they serve . They take phone orders but never answer the phone . Done with the place I drive from Hilo said she can make my order and back out as soon as I get there and tell me it’s a 5 hour wait and closes in two hours. Very sad. Very good food just not worth all the drama. Not all customers the same
I found this place off a blog and I'm so glad I did! In summary:1. I called at 12pm on a Thursday, the wait at that point was 2-2.5 hrs for an order. Theres only 1 person assembling all the rolls2. Orders MUST be placed in person. I ended up swinging by the shop at 2:30pm after lunch elsewhere to place an order for 6pm pick up3. They can close the shop unexpectedly early so they can finish all their orders on time by the end of day (they close at 6pm). They were double checking with the chef while I was there at 2:30pm to make sure he can complete my order by 6pm. At that point, the wait was 3 hrs. 4. Wait was TOTALLLY worth it! I would definitely do it again! The rolls are 50% bigger than your typical rolls and there is a good chunk of tuna/salmon.I got the North Star, Makai, Austin, and Spicy Salmon rolls. - all amazing rolls, I like the Austin and North star by just a smidge more, but I have no regrets with any of the rolls.
Best sushi I ever had, priced less than the store-bought stuff. Definitely worth the sometimes hour long wait.
Don't come here! The lines are long , the food is grinds (delicious) and they take credit cards! Go away! I want this place to myself!
All time go to for sushi! Service may take long sometimes but that’s because only one person is making the rolls so take that into mind while you’re waiting for the best tasting sushi around on the big island. Also don’t take to heart the service, these guys are the only hands working in their small whole in the wall business and can’t be as welcoming as you’d expect due to hundreds of people coming in to have a bite. Love Love Love Hayashi’s
This is a wonderful, small, sushi shop. You can walk in, place your order and have it within about 20 minutes, or call your order to pick up. No indoor seating, but there are nice covered tables outdoors. We had spicy ahi and the California roll, and both were fresh and delicious. If you enjoy sushi, give this place a try.
long wait for your order here. the fish is fresh and price is reasonable
Good food good people a little bit of a wait but I tell u what it's worth it trust me
Very nice for hole-in-the-wall take out sushi. Big size rolls, 8 pcs, one is almost enuff. Decent and fresh. No line when I got there at 3 pm but people came and left steady. Maybe they just did mine quick because I looked like trouble. Most people call ahead apparently and pick up. One sushi chef, busy man. Closes at 6 pm so not a place for sit down dinner. They have picnic tables not fancy but anywhere outdoors in kona is nice. My first time but not last. There are a few other sushi places worth checking in Kona
We visited 2yrs ago on local recommendations and were happy then and equally as happy now!!! #Yummy
This is an ultimate must try and must go place if you are in kona. It's always a treat for me when we go here. I love the ninja star and Mele roll. Don't forget to get the spicy sauce... it's a must have. It would take about an hour and a half for you to get your order but it is worth it.😎👍🏼
Make sure to get there early. This is a favorite of sushi lovers on the Big Island so the locals line up before dinnertime The place is BUSY. Seating is all outside, nothing fancy and no table service. Most just take out. There is no preorder and you might have to wait an hour for your order to be ready. This is worth that level of inconvenience. Take a moment and let that fact sink in.
The food and price is good the portions are great. The service is lacking and the wait times are awful
Always awesome! The best sushi ever!!
We ordered 3 rolls for lunch. They were fine and typical, nothing special. They were big and not tightly rolled so the pieces fell apart. We had to eat with our hands and not chopsticks because the sushi pieces could not hold up. There were 3 people ahead of us and our wait was close to an hour. We will not be visiting again due to the long wait and the lack of parking.
Really neat hole in the wall with authentic sushi at a really great price.
Tasty and reasonably priced. You may have to 2 hours for your food, but to me it's worth it. More of a local's place. Don't be that tourist.
Big rolls, good prices
Good sushi, locally owned, great prices. So good and inexpensive that you need to wait a long time for your order. They don't take phone orders so you will need to stand in line in the hot sun to order (unless you pre order a tray days ahead of time which really are the best priced sushi trays by far in my opinion) then you wait possibly 2 hours for your order depending on how busy they are. If I go in prepared for a long wait I get excited if I only have to wait 1 hour. I would definitely give it 5 stars if I could call in and order. Thanks Hayashis for consistently good sushi at such reasonable prices!😁
Place is the best , must try worth the wait !
Took 2 hours but the wait was worth it.
The sushi is the best on the island. I only give 4 stars because the wait is often long, but that’s because they’re so popular! Also they close during the middle of the day at random times, so I would call ahead to check what time their break is. But the sushi is well worth the wait. Try the ninja star roll for fresh tuna!
First, the sushi taste good and great value. We got in line and the lady came out and said 45 mins from when you order. A half hour later we ordered and she said 2 hours from now and then closed the place 2.5 hrs early. Apparently it's Seinfeld's Soup nazi. If you leave the door open she kicks you out of line. You do have to know the sushi was good and the price was good.
Amazing, affordable sushi! Heads up, wait time is 1-2 hours. That was fine for us, we just ordered and walked around nearby until our order was ready. I ordered teriyaki chicken with cream cheese and avocado, it was DELICIOUS and a big roll that I almost didn’t finish! Definitely worth the wait. The people that work there are very nice and sweet
Ichiban numbah one!
Don't let the wait scare you off, its worth every second!
I’ve been eating here since he opened, when I was a telemarketer in the office next door. Hayashi makes the best, most original, and most affordable sushi! Big island roll, ninja star, makai roll omg! You must try this place!
The best hole in the wall sushi in town! Owned by a nice couple, making the best FRESH hand rolled sushi
This sushi was amazing. Well worth the wait (over 45 minutes)
Incredible value for delicious sushi. Highly recommended. Might be a wait but well worth it.
Great rolls. Waiting time takes away the last star. Order, go and have a beer. Come back, enjoy...
